A shekel today ≠ a shekel in 20 years

Even if your bank pays interest, the prices of bread, rent, and gasoline keep rising. The interest rate the bank quotes is "nominal" — the rate that actually adds to your purchasing power is "real". Knowing the difference is half of advising clients on long-horizon goals.
